Description

This interactive workshop builds practical skills for identifying early developmental and neurodivergent indicators while centering the self-determination, voice, and readiness of culturally diverse families. Participants learn to observe and communicate with care, use culturally responsive and strength-based practices, and collaborate with families and school teams in ways that reduce stigma and honor each family’s values and lived experiences. Through applied strategies and real-world scenarios, participants strengthen trust-based partnerships and support families navigating developmental delay, autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and other neurodevelopmental needs. Participants will develop a strong foundation in recognizing early developmental and behavioral indicators that may signal the need for further observation or referral, including characteristics commonly associated with autism, ADHD, and intellectual or developmental disabilities. Through practical examples and applied strategies, participants will strengthen their ability to observe, document, and respond appropriately within their professional role, while collaborating effectively with teachers, specialists, and school teams throughout the recognition and referral process. Participants will also build skills in culturally responsive, empathetic communication that centers family voice, reduces stigma, and fosters trust when discussing developmental concerns. The training emphasizes honoring family language, culture, and lived experience while supporting families through the emotional and procedural stages of referral, evaluation, and connection to school- and community-based resources. By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped to engage families with care and clarity, serve as a supportive bridge to services, and promote equitable, family-centered developmental support.
