Healthy Air for Healthy Beginnings: Cleaner Air for Children in Child Care (PDI 2026)

Children ages 0–5 are especially vulnerable to air pollution because their lungs, brains, and immune systems are still developing. This interactive session explores how outdoor and indoor air quality influence children’s health, learning, and daily well-being. Participants will learn about common air pollution sources affecting Pierce County—including traffic corridors, industrial emissions, wildfire smoke, ozone, wood smoke, and indoor pollutants—and discover practical, affordable strategies to reduce children’s exposure. The session emphasizes improving indoor air quality, reducing outdoor pollutant infiltration, building maintenance, and everyday practices that create healthier environments for children, families, and staff.
